Guidelines for batching- Joburg Omnium
Time Standards must be met in order to ride in your chosen batch.
Time Standards are there as a guideline to ensure that riders are of similar ability in order to keep racing safe and fun
Open Men
Masters may opt to ride in open batch
Juniors may opt to ride in open batch
A handicap system for Masters and Juniors to be formulated based on Age
Youths – May ride with Open Batch only if they meet the time standards and the Race Organiser approves it.
Open Women
Masters may opt to ride in open batch
Juniors may opt to ride in Open Batch
A handicap system for Masters and Juniors to be formulated based on Age
Youths – May ride with Open Batch only if they meet the time standards and the Race Organiser approves it.
Mixed Batch
Any rider that does not qualify to ride in the open batch can ride in the mixed batch.
There will be no handicap system in the mixed batch
U 13 riders – May ride with Mixed Batch only if they meet the time standards and the Race Organiser approves it.
The Final call on category placings lies with the commissaire or race organiser.
Handicap
Handicap system will allocate points to riders before the start of the Omnium
Elite riders will start Omnium as per normal on 0 points
Scoring
Winner of an event scores 40 points, 2nd 38 points, 3rd 36 points and so on. If there are more than 20 riders everyone from 21st on scores 1 point each
Riders will start the Points Race with their points accrued over the first three events. Riders shall add to, and lose points from, their points totals based on laps gained and lost, and points won in sprints.
The overall omnium result will be based on riders scoring the most amount of points after the points race.
Tempo
The first sprint will commence after the 2nd lap. 1 point will be awarded to the first rider across the line in every lap after that.
If a rider laps the bunch thy will receive 20 points
If a rider gets lapped by the bunch, they forfeit any points scored in this race, will be pulled off the track and will be placed according to number of riders remaining on the track at that time
Elimination
The last rider to cross the start finish line will be eliminated every lap
Points
Sprints will be held every 5 laps with 5,3,2,1 points awarded
Riders lapping the bunch will be awarded 20 points
Riders losing a lap on the bunch will receive -20 points
Double points are allocated on the last sprint.
